The manifestations and causes of cylinder gasket damage

Jul 24,2025

The main causes of damage include overheating of the engine, deformation of the cylinder head, improper tightening of cylinder head bolts (insufficient torque or incorrect sequence), insufficient or poor quality coolant, and high-pressure impact caused by detonation

Failure of cylinder gasket can lead to various problems, with common symptoms including:
Abnormal exhaust: The exhaust pipe emits white smoke (coolant entering the combustion chamber) or blue smoke (oil leakage), indicating seal failure.
Unstable engine operation: decreased power, idle shaking, difficulty starting, or insufficient combustion due to insufficient cylinder pressure.
Oil water mixture: If the engine oil emulsifies and turns white or if there are oil droplets on the surface of the coolant, it indicates that the liquid is flowing through each other, which may cause overheating or cylinder pulling.
Overheating phenomenon: Abnormal increase in water temperature, boiling of water tank or bubbling of coolant, caused by high-pressure gas entering the cooling system 58.
